Around 1895, Henry A. Belcher, a merchant and partner in R.H. White Company - a Boston department
store, had a magnificent home* constructed a the corner of North Main Street and Grove Streets.
Like many large houses of its time, Belcher Mansion incorporated an almost bewildering array
of colors, textures, and architectural surface treatments both inside and outside.
The grounds were eloquently designed by Frederick Law Olmsted who is famous for his designs
of New York City's Central Park and Boston's Fenway in Back Bay.
In later years, the mansion was remodeled for use as the Bri Mar Nursing Home and today
for use as professional business offices.
At the time of the most recent transformation, the gardens were replaced with townhouse-inspired
office suites.
